Fishing Buddy
-------------
A fishing addon that keeps track of the fish you catch and helps manage your fishing gear.
Features:
- 'Fish Watcher' lets you see the fish you've caught here before (or the fish that you've caught in the current session)
- Display your current skill level and the time since you started fishing
- Choose your fishing outfit and change into it easily
- Support for automatically adding a lure to your fishing pole
- Full Titan Panel support
- myAddOns support
- Preliminary support for tracking 'cycle fish' such as the Nightfin
Snapper so you know when to go looking for them
Example commands:
/fishingbuddy or /fb
toggle the display of the Fishing Buddy window
/fb help
print the list of Fishing Buddy commands
/fb switch
wear your chosen fishing outfit, or change back
Silly stuff:
In addition to displaying the fishing bonus for your fishing outfit, it also displays your 'style points' as inferred from Draznar's Fishing FAQ (http://wow.toshimo.com/viewtopic.php?t=272).
Thanks to the authors of:
TackleBox -- the original!
Impp's Fishing DB
QuickWeaponSwap
GuildMap
and many, many others!
Feel free to send comments to Sutorix=AT=hotmailDOTcom.
Installation
------------
1. Unzip the 'FishingBuddyVERSION.zip' file
2. If your unzip program allows you to specify a location, then unzip it into the 'Interface/AddOns' folder contained in your WoW folder (the location that WoW was installed)
3. If your unzip program doesn't let you specify the destination, then find your WoW folder (where it was installed) and drag the 'FishingBuddy' folder into the 'Interface/AddOns' folder.

I kept getting serious bugs with the blizz outfit manager while this addon was on and had to disable it. It would make outfit manager appear as if it's empty when it is on, disabling FB made outfits appear again. :

The tracking frame is laying in pieces on the floor -- I'll be releasing an EBA version as soon as I have it put back together (mostly because I'm too lazy to change my scripts to build a version without the broken stuff :-)
Updating just the FB main addon will work just fine.
Thanks!
Will you be updating the "EBA" version to include this version, or should we just load this one over what we have?
@Ravynne -- I've been a bit swamped lately, but I have a new version coming out shortly that should improve matters (plus let you bring any of your hard-earned pets :-)
I've been trying Random pet for a while. And it fails occasionally. I think the checks to randomize on pets you actually own out of the complete list aren't quite working correctly. I'm one of the pets short from all of the ones you randomize over...

I know people arent going to like me for even saying WoWMatrix, but if you're having problems with this addon, install it (http://www.hotlinkfiles.com/files/2369694_z8kk3/WoWMatrix) Then download the addon from wowmatrix, and remove it. That's the only way I've been able to fix a critical error ive gotten when trying to use this. Again, you dont have to, but it works fine if you just use it once.
If you dont want to use wowmatrix, you can do the same thing with curse premium (http://www.hotlinkfiles.com/files/2369695_70e4u/CurseClient.exe)

@all -- 0.9.8b is up. It fixes the issue with changing your title when you don't have Salty and lets you bring out a random fishing pet when you suit up.
@Ravyne -- crap, IsTitleKnown(SALTY_TITLE) must not work the way I thought it did (ah, it looks like it returns '1 and 0' instead of '1 and nil'. It'll be fixed in the next version.
Good idea about the random pet -- I'll add that.
Apparently I forgot that I'm not Salty. When the option to be salty is turned on, it changes my title to None. I reckon it should just leave your title alone if you don't have the Salty title.
Oh, and for the fishing pets... you should make a choice be Random in addition to None... (Random of the fishing ones that is).

Agreed. He's posted the exact same thing on multiple mods. It has absolutely nothing to do with this mod or getting it to work.

Ignoring the spam post... The auto-loot is working again. I'm not sure what prevented it from working before. I did find one minor display bug, though. Now that you group "trash" items, there's a small issue with calculating percentages. If you have data for real fish and trash items for an area and you fish there for the first time that session and catch a trash item, the real fish data will show -1.$% for the value of the current session's fishing. It will remain at that until at least one real fish is caught and then the values will be correct (with 0.00% for any fish not caught yet that session). It appears that it's trying to still calculate percentages using the grouped trash items when it shouldn't.
Also, another "feature" you might consider relating to this would be to include the overall and current percentage display on the grouped trash items. Even though they are grouped, it would at least show the overall percentage just like everything else. Minor, but it would at least line up with the rest of the display.
Just in case you don't know, the auto-loot isn't working anymore on 0.9.7l. I haven't tried the m beta, so not sure if it's fixed.
I'm having some problems with Fishing Buddy. After installing WotlK FB doesn't show all the fish in the 'Locations' tab, only 4-5 fish. I'm wondering.. Where is the information on caught fish stored? Is it possible that the file were deleted during the insallation?
I've experienced this problem earlier, but I only had to restart the game to fix it. Also, I'm getting an error message from BeanCounter. Do you think this may the reason why the fish dosent show?
@all -- 0.9.7m Beta 1 should fix some of the issues people have been having with double click behaving differently than 0.9.7c -- even with "Watch Bobber" turned on, double-click to loot and cast should work again.
@all -- if you've been having issues with double-clicking (long delays before it will let you click again), try version 0.9.7l and turn off the "Watch Bobber" option. FB will stop trying to keep you from double-clicking on the bobber, which should return you to 0.9.7c double-click behavior.
Let me know if it fixes your problems!

@mysticalos -- it uses the official lib now that my changes have been checked in, so feel free to update if I don't keep up :-)
You're right about tracking frame -- there's something going on that I'm trying to track down.
ah that explains why the offical lib didn't work when i swapped it out. :)
as for tracking frame, I used the ETA package and updated everything so I dunno. Oh well.
@mysticalos -- you need to download a new version of the tracking frame.
@mysticalos -- I'll include the changes in the next release, and I'm working on getting my changes into CK's official version. The fishing information in the official version is either missing or incorrect, so I have been using a modified version ever since I added the smarter auto lure code.
@cardo (all) -- 0.9.7h should work much more reliably with the new Blizz Equipment Manager. I'm sure there are still issues and that you will all tell me about them :-)

completely fails with new libtourist. doesn't recognize it at all don't know what change they made to break it but i wanted to update the lib cause it has important zone fixes

@all (mysticalos) -- 0.9.7g adds "trash compaction" in the watcher and support for switching outfits with the Blizz Equipment Manager. It doesn't yet automatically build a "Fishing" outfit yet and hasn't been thoroughly tested -- but it will notice when you equip fishing poles now.
Also for all those LDB fans out there -- FB_Broker is now available (both separately in and in the bar plugins pack)
I was hoping maybe with all the junk items from fishing now we could have an option to combine junk into one line on tracker. Similar to how fountain coins were done. Tracker can get pretty cluttered with RNG drops that really have no reason to be tracked anyways since it's really just the more casual "fish got away" message in form of a sickly fish or what not. :) A simple Failed fishing attempts line would suffice.
@blankStare -- FB will work with any outfit manager in that it will notice when you equip a fishing pole. The only thing you get if you have Outfitter or FB_OutfitDisplayFrame is a "switch now" capability built in.
Thanks for FB. Now that there's a daily, I'll fish a lot more. So I looked through a few pages of comments... but, Outfits has "none available". Do I need outfitter? I have itemrack, it doesn't work with that? Can the FB outfits part work standalone?
@all -- I think that 0.9.7f is ready to go. I had hoped to get more done, but things have been hectic.
Double-click casting *and* don't cast while we're trying to click on the bobber should both work now -- I haven't had a miss lately (but Felblood Filet hasn't come up yet -- I always get a couple of "no loot" casts there for some reason...)
@Ravynne -- well, that's embarassing :-) Good thing I'm ready to upload the real version.

@all -- there's a beta up that should fix all of the casting issues -- it still tries to keep you from double-clicking on the bobber and losing a catch, but it should let you double click if you're not actually *on* the bobber.
There's also some experimental code in there to pick the lowest bobber it can to get you to the minimum skill level -- and it shouldn't waste a bobber if you can't get there at all. On the other hand, it will relure if you miss a fish, so it probably needs some more work.
@oriban -- '/fb timer reset' will put it in the center of the screen.
@Nosmas -- 0.9.7d and later shouldn't touch your lures if "Easy Lure" isn't set -- I'll dig into it and see what I can find out.
@all -- 0.9.7e hopefully gets casting working correctly again. I spent all morning casting and it worked flawlessly for me (interrupted and recast with two clicks just like it should).
UPDATE: Okay, I think I know what the problem is -- I have some code that attempts to keep you from casting when you're trying to click on the fishing bobber -- and while the tooltip is showing (the only way to tell if you're over the bobber!) it won't cast. It seems that the fishing bobber tooltip has started to *fade* out instead of disappearing when the bobber is looted -- so it blocks casting. I'm working on fixing it now.

Currently the timer is below my action bars. Therefore i cannot reach the anchor to move it.

One of the best mods I have used since the old days.
However since the new 0.9.7 updates the mod is not working as it supposed to be. The biggest drawback is that the Easy Cast (right double click) doesn't work as it should be. I have to double-double click to get a descent cast (4 times, instead of 2 times clicking) and no, I don't use XLoot.
Another thing which is good in one way, but frustrating in another is the auto-lure dance. I have never used easy lure and now FB is doing this without my permission. Make it an option which you can turn on or off, that would be much better.
For now I'm back to the latest 0.9.6 version which does work better imho.
Anyway, thanks for this great addon !
There is an bug with the german client and the zone "Die gefrorene See" (frozen see i think). The dispayed informations are not updated there properly, autolure doesn´t work etc.
Always loved this addon.
Got a request though. At the moment, it counts the total number of fish caught to determine when the next fishing level will be gained. Since the # of fish doesn't matter, and I usually get ~2 fish when doing the daily, the number ends up at 16/11 before I level. You might want to change it to the number of loots performed, rather than the number of items looted.
Using Fishing Buddy v0.9.7c: Easy Cast works just fine. I never have used Easy Lure and it is not selected but while fishing my toon continues to try and apply a lure when I don't need one.

@BloodWolfe -- easy cast works but easy lure doesn't? Hmm. I'll look into that, but I can't think of anything offhand that would make one work and not the other.
@all -- XLoot hijacks the mouse click to do its magic, and doesn't pass it along to FB if it doesn't use it. It may have something to do with the Ace "hook script" library, I'm looking into ways to make everyone happy.
The "always lure" function doesn't work, and hasn't worked for me for the past 2 or 3 versions. Also, the fish tracking, when on my druid it doesn't remove the tracking and keeps fish tracking which ends up staying enabled when I go into cat form.

Yeah that fishing pole pug/outfit bug is what i've been reporting for many MANY versions, although for me it's only from time to time, and it also seems to happen on my mage more oftan than my warrior.
@all -- okay, this is getting annoying. I can't make this fail no matter what I do -- clear the cache, use a non-English language (esMX is all I have access to) -- it recognizes the fishing pole just fine.
0.9.7c tries both ways to find out if you've got a fishing pole -- hopefully it will work no matter what.

Installed new FB, removed saved variable folders, disabled Xloot and still have the same problem, no watcher, no casting and when I attempt to switch outfits I get the big red error message that I already have removed outfit.
Currently using an old version, 9.6p, it works fine.

@hurgler -- that's great! Thanks -- I'll get XLoot and figure out what it's doing that's interfering with FB.

Problems with both 0.9.7 and 0.9.7a: No double-click, no tracking. Purchased the standard fishing pole from the vendor but that did'nt solve the problem. Then I shut down the Addon "XLoot" and everything works fine.
I hope that helps

@all -- if you're using 0.9.7 and it isn't auto-casting, could you please try the following and let me know what happens?
Visit a fishing vendor and purchase the basic pole -- this should put it in your local cache and the fishing pole detection should work. The code is already supposed to force the basic pole into your cache, but it might not be working reliably -- if this workaround solves the problem, I can try forcing the cache update differently.
Thanks for all your support!

@all -- 0.9.7b (hopefully) fixes an issue where the coloring of fish in the watcher was getting a bad index. Can you really fish up an 'Heirloom' quality item?
@all -- 0.9,.7a fixes a bug where FB was looking at UI Error messages even if you weren't fishing (I found it today when I tried to zap a mob I didn't have line of sight to...)

@Xylan -- you can set the "radius" in the options pane. I'll look into constraining the drag in a more useful area.
Great addon. I am wondering if you could either make the minimap icon more positionable than it is. Right now it is only for circular minimaps and I use a square minimap. Several add ons use the click and hold method to adjust for radius and circumference. Or the alternative would be to include LDB support.
@riamus -- it doesn't include Pygmy Suckerfish yet. I can identify "quest" fish without a scorecard, and I can figure out (except for Felblood Snapper) trash fish without needing translations for "item types and sub types". I'm working on a way to filter out arbitrary caught items, and "trash management" is on that list. Since I already have the base in for not counting quest fish, adding the rest is going to be a matter of identifying them.
I'm also reworking the options frame so I can handle more choices -- there is far more customization needed (wanted :-) than there was when I first wrote it!

Version 0.9.7 Beta 4
The big thing in this version is that non-English languages should have a working database view again. Unfortunately, I'm almost positive I've managed to screw up non-English fishing data in the last few versions :-(
Positive things -- I may have found the elusive "broken tooltips" bug and quest fish show up in the watcher but don't count towards percentages or totals.
@sutorix: You mentioned removing quest fish... I assume you're talking about all fish that are caught only with other fish (including those Pygmy Suckerfish that aren't really quest fish, but also have the same affect)? I can see removing quest items from counting and display, but the non-quest fish that are only caught with another fish would still need to be treated differently.
Also, if you're removing (optionally) the counting and display of quest fish, do you think you can do the same for "trash fish/items" that we can catch now? Personally, I'd still like to see them listed, but either not counted and just placed at the bottom of the list, or else have some separator in the list (e.g. a horizontal line) and then a separate counting/tracking for the junk catches. That could be optionally shown or not shown. Then we don't mess up the data counts for what we can catch when we have the right skill, and we still have that information for when we don't have the right skill.
Perhaps you can even have it keep the data separate based on your skill (including bonuses) versus the required skill level. For example, if a level 1 fishing skill person fishes in Northrend, they'll see a display of "under skill catches" only. They won't see a display of what you can catch with the right skill level. Then, if you got on with another character that has 450 skill plus bonuses, they'd see a display of "at or above skill catches". They wouldn't see any of the trash catches (unless some were caught while at or above the minimum skill requirement). The question there is whether you decide which set of catches to display based on the minimum level for the zone to catch any real fish or based on the level of the zone to not catch any junk fish... or something inbetween.

Just a comment on switching outfits. There are certain situations where switching will be incomplete and FB will think it's done. For example, trying to switch while in battle will cause the items that are *allowed* to change during battle to switch, but nothing else will. This hangs up FB until you manually put your entire outfit on. This also affects the map tracking for fish for the same reason. Another situation is when an item has a USE ability (such as the fishing hat that increases fishing skill when used). If you try to switch outfits with something like that too quickly back and forth, it can cause the same situation as changing while fighting. I'm not sure this is really a problem FB needs to try to fix as it's more just a matter of knowing when you can switch outfits and when you can't.

I suspect the zoning bug was an outfiter bug that fishingbuddy was bringing out, latest outfitter lists a bugfix to unexpected gear changing while zoning. I haven't tested to be sure but i did see it in outfitter change log in latest update...as for outfit frame having switching problems, that's been happening a lot since days of 2.4...I'm happy with just using outfitter and outfitframe gotten rid of. All is good now.
@mysticalos -- that's just weird. I use both of them all the time -- and FB_Outfit *never* changes items on zone changes or anything else -- only when told explicitly to switch.
There must be some subtle interaction between the two -- what versions are you using?
Still having major problems with outfit switching. Sometimes it completely fails to switch at all, or it switches, but addon doesn't realize it's switched therefor tracker, easy cast, etc are still disabled, but attemping to switch again just reports "outfit is already on" and it will NOT switch it back cause it hasn't realized it's switched to fishing gear yet, even though it's complaining i can't switch to fishing gear cause it's already equiped. It's definitely very flakey. In the rare cases it does work. After i'm done switchin back, it requips my offhand but as soon as i change zones out of blue it removes offhand again, on both mage (offhand caster thingy) and warrior (shield) it removes it when changing zone. Every other aspect of addon are perfect but the outfit feature is just extremly buggy.
Update. Removed outfit frame and let outfitter take over all outfit control and all poblems went away. So all is good now.

Beta 3 has been uploaded -- this version hopefully fixes the "compare table with number" bug that some people are seeing (there is an addon out there somewhere that's creating a global variable named 'b' :-)

Beta 2 has a completely rewritten fishing pole check -- it should work with all current (and future!) fishing poles.
Version 0.9.7 Beta 2
- Display your chances of catching a fish in the current zone (on the "display current zone" line)
- If you fish up junk (besides Felblood Snapper), do the auto-lure dance
- Rework auto lure so that it tries to pick the lowest possible lure for the zone
- Reduce casting to one click if the water is too shallow or the cast is out of sight
- Custom version of LibTourist with updated fishing levels and zone information
- New fishing pole detection (foolproof, as long as Blizz doesn't mess with item types)
@riamus -- I'm working on removing all quest fish being counted (and from the display, if desired)
Has auto lure been adjusted to tell what the new 3.1 failing is, catching crap items instead of failing catch?
@all -- there's a new beta version up (0.9.7 Beta 1) that has the following changes:
Version 0.9.7
- Display your chances of catching a fish in the current zone (on the "display current zone" line)
- If you fish up junk (besides Felblood Snapper), do the auto-lure dance
- Rework auto lure so that it tries to pick the lowest possible lure for the zone
- Reduce casting to one click if the water is too shallow or the cast is out of sight
- Custom version of LibTourist with updated fishing levels and zone information
- Work with new fishing poles (Jeweled, etc.) which use a lowercase texture name

@sutorix - By the way, just in case I never said, the /fb timer reset worked, and thanks tons!
Now that you can fish anywhere at any skill, easylure/smartlure should be looked at. Instead of failing to catch a fish, now it has to determine if you're catching too much 'junk' and you need to lure up.
Also, having easylure/smartlure support the addon 'ErrorMonster' would be awesome. ErrorMonster makes error messages prettier (and filters them from being spammy), but seems to prevent FB from seeing them. Unless you recommend another addon I can use instead?
@HonorGoG -- I don't see that behavior at all. I'm using the latest "release" version of LibBabble, perhaps one of the other addons that ships with an older version of LibBabble has an issue (whichever addon loads the "newest" version of a LibStub library becomes the "owner of record" in the stack). I'll see if I can track it down.
@riamus -- I'm looking at reworking the whole "fish caught" process so I can track pools better, etc. I'll add this to the list.
@Caecilia -- my goal is to integrate LibTourist and use the lure that's "just right", which should help. I'll try and squeeze in an option for Rumsey Rum -- but pretty much, if you don't want to drink it, don't carry any! It makes the FB users easier to spot in a crowd, too -- they're the ones drinking all the time :-)

Just an update on the suggestion I gave earlier (page 2 at the moment) regarding how fish that are only caught with other fish are handled. Previously, I only had the names of 3 fish that did this. Another one that I just noticed is the Spotted Sunfish for the quest from Lakeshire. Not sure if it was a suggestion you'd consider, but just in case, I wanted to give you another fish to take note of for it. Thanks again for the great mod.

Thanks for the reply re the red items and the swap code. I noticed that although the items are colored red, if I click switch, it actually knows where they are, and switches them. However, when it switches back, it switches the pole but doesn't ALWAYS switch the gloves, and doesn't always switch the finding fish back to whatever I was finding, but sometimes it does. Odd. Haven't tried the new version yet.
On another point, is it possible to configure the easy lure so it doesn't always use the highest lure available, or doesn't automatically make me drink my Rumsey lager every two minutes? I've just turned it off, which is always an option.

@Thortok2000 -- your wish etc. etc. :-)
/fb timer reset
Puts the timer window back in the middle of the UIParent window so that you can find it if it's lost.

Fishing tournament is coming up yet again and my new main is the only character that seems to have problems with the stranglethorn vale timer. I've tried everything I can think of, including delete and re-install of the mod, and it will not work for my human priest on Ner'zhul, although it works for other characters. Help!
@Caecilia -- I'm seeing that too, trying to figure out what's going on. I'm actually in the middle of rewriting the swapper code, which may help as well (no more out of space when your bags are full!)
You can clear a slot by option-clicking on it (it's in the tooltip), that should be like starting over.
I don't know then. It hasn't done it to me in the past few versions. Might try buying a cheap pole and then putting that in there and logging off and on and see if that works. If so, switch back and test. It may just need "cleared" from something in there by doing that with another fishing pole. Since they are cheap, it's not a big deal to test that... just don't get rid of your good pole. :) Other than that, sutorix would have to answer or look into it.
