What is Perl Classic?
Perl Classic Unit Frames are a complete rewrite of the original mods by Perl. They replace the default Player, Pet, Target, Target of Target, Party, and Party Pet frames and add dedicated frames for many other units (Focus, Focus Target, Party Target, Target of Target of Target). It has been a high priority to maintain the look and feel or the original Perl mods while expanding functionality. The mod has been recoded for performance and is built around the Blizzard UI usage of events.

Q&A
-----
Q: I'm seeing double party buffs for some reason, what gives?
A: 99% of the time this is caused by CT_PartyBuffs. Simply remove the mod and you will return to having one set of party buffs.
Q: I am having massive dead spots for clicking on some of the unit frames, what's wrong?
A: This can be caused by a number of mods, but the most common seems to be CT_MovableParty. Please remove this mod as Perl can be moved without the use of this mod.
Q: The default party frames are showing up with red lightning bolts. What's going on?
A: As of version 1.503 of CT_RaidAssist this should no longer be caused by CTRA. The settings for this are now located in the WoW settings under Interface Options -> Basic -> Raid -> Hide Party Interface.
Q: Do you support ArcaneBar?
A: Yes, it is included in your download of Perl Classic.
Q: Will you be adding any features to Perl_PlayerBuff?
A: No, my coding for this mod goes as far as making sure it 'works.' If anyone would like to expand upon it, feel free to do so.
Q: Where are the raid frames?
A: As of 2.0 I no longer code raid frames for Perl Classic. Luckily, X-Perl's raid frames work great alongside Perl Classic. X-Perl's raid frames (and the unit frames themselves) can be found here: http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/3416/
Q: The scaling is all messed up! What do i do?
A: I recommend setting the scale to that of the UI if you are having issues. Open the options menu via "/perl" or the Black Pearl icon on the minimap and set the scale accordingly under the "All" tab.
Q: I am having an issue not listed in this FAQ, what can I do?
A: First, update *every* mod. I do not support ancient outdated and unmaintained mods. If you have double checked that everything is up to date, post on any of the Perl Classic mod pages and I'll be glad to help you narrow down the issue or give suggestions to help find a solution.
Q: Can you add this feature?
A: I'm sure it's possible, but the primary purpose of this mod is to 'modernize' the original Perl mod so that it doesn't slow your game down.

@SamusJC: Try using the following option. /perl -> All -> Positioning Mode
Be sure to have the party target and party pet portions enabled so they show up in that option.
Hello,
I wonder if you can make an alignment button - just like target of target - but for party pets. Have the alignment be right after the party targets (to the right and align with health/mana bars).

@meowr: Just be sure to have party pets enabled before you turn on the positioning mode option.
@Meadows: Thanks for the report. This is a known issue and will be fixed in the next version.
@Azza: I can add this to my todo, but no promises on when this will come, if ever.

Could a feature be added to have the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth health frame to be hidden when mounting such a mount?
Bug: pet frame is always expecting Mana or Focus, but some pets (dragon daily in Coldarra - "Aces High!") use Energy, Combo Points or other weird stuff that you should be aware of. If possible, I'd like to see proper Energy updating (it's stuck at 100 expecting Focus I think, but the bar is still yellow as if it knew it's Energy) and a combo point frame for pets that I can toggle (haven't checked the Blizzard frames but there may be one of those by default too).
suggestion - similar to the align target (and target of target) - can you include a align pet option? in particular in a party mode.
I remember at one stage being able to have a 'shadow' preview view of the layout placements ... such as where the party, target, focus, pet, etc of all the frames .. where I could position everything - even while I was solo (and thus in a calm situation with time to spare to organise my prefered layout) - since I tend to find rearranging stuff once you get in a raid or party or worse while in combat can be less than optimal
anyway if its still a feature - I've lost how to activate it.

@Shoelace: Perl Classic is a unit frame mod, not an action bar mod. Buff timers are supported, simply install something like OmniCC (http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info4836-OmniCC.html). Cast bars are enabled by default as well. /perl -> ArcaneBar
455 days ago
I love the AddOn and its flexiblity, but it does not include the action bars, buff timers, or the cast bar under the toon (unless I missed something). Where do I get those? Thanks!
@Meadows: It's not a bug, it's a missing feature. The next version will support the faster updating power.
@meowr: The pvp timer is on my todo list, no eta on it. The focus bug, afaik, is a Blizzard issue.
@Varder: No readme, but I'll be more than happy to answer any questions.
I like the Add-on. is there a read-me file anywhere with a description of what each button does?
does it show the pvp (countdown) timer?
also I seem to get problems getting the focus to work via right click menu on the portrait
resorted to slash command ^^'
The addon has a vintage bug - it updates the mana/rage/energy bar once every 2 seconds only.
With the latest patch (v3), regeneration of character power happens continuously and fluidly, so you need to let us know and update more often. Health, however, still regenerates in "ticks".

Just wanting to say: Thanks for making this mod. Using it since.. dont know, since release ? :-) Cant play WoW without it.

I have a problem with MobInfo not showing HP/Mana Values in Target Frame using latest Perl Unit frames. Option is checked though. Any suggestions?

@Balthisar: No. If you want to do special things regarding totems, I highly recommend using the mod "TotemTimers" whican can be found here: http://wowui.worldofwar.net/?p=mod&m=2002
@Coldrak: You should be able to mix and match all parts of X-Perl with Perl Classic with no problems.

Does the Xperl_PartyFrames work with perl classic? I like perl classic but i like the raid and party frames of xperl. Thanks :D

Tried with 2.16 had the same problem. After some testing it turned out IFrameManager was causing the problem. Disabling it fix my problem.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that version 2.16 is meant for use *only* on WoW 2.4. Please do not report the 4/5 errors that are thrown when running it on WoW 2.3. As always, if you run across any oddities other than the ones I just mentioned, please report them.

@Lej: Give 2.16 a try tomorrow once WoW 2.4 is live. I wasn't able to reproduce any frame positioning issues on the later versions of the PTR. If it still happens in 2.4 please let me know.

I'm having a problem. Just updated to 2.15 (after deleting 2.14 and saved variables). Everytime I login the player/party/target etc frames are placed wrongly. I have to manually "Load Global Settings" for them to place them self correctly. Any idea what's wrong?
@Pataze: XPerl, XPerl_Options, and XPerl_RaidFrames are all you need. Regarding OmniCC, adjust the "Minimum Scale" option until you have your timers back.
@srshyu: It's in progress, but it won't be out anytime soon. I code less than before for some reason, and I'm recoding the Ace3 version from scratch. If you care to see where it's at now, http://www.g-ball.com/wow/ui/PerlClassic_r66.rar , will give you a decent idea. /pc will open the config menu for it. Please note that this is missing some major features, but is stable and wont crash or error out. Don't bother reporting bugs from it either =P

ace3 is out, I am so looking forward to ace3 version of perl. :)

Could you please tell me what folders I need from X-perl for the raid frames. Is it just the Raidframes folder or do the other raid related folders in the X-perl package work also..
Also.. I remember awhile back there used to be timers on the target buffs and debuffs.. they seem to be gone now.. is that a blizzard thing or perl?
BTW I use omnicc for cooldown and timers..
Thanks so much for a great unit addon

@xulthus: I'll add this to my todo list.

Can I ask you why whenever I target somebody it doesn't show if he has leader item or not. Say somebody is leader of a group and I target him it just doesn't show. in default unitframe it does.

@phlay: Thanks for the info. I updated the mod and links on all my pages. I'll have to try your mod when I finally get back home. Range checks that I didn't have to code sounds too nice to not try :D

Global - I have replaced development of Benecast ( wintrow ) with Benecaster. This mod is tested with both the default unit frames and specifically Perl. I've provided the link below so perhaps the link above can be updated.

@griffion:I personally use sRaidFrames in conjunction with perl, it works flawlessly.
@griffion: The best solution to this is to use the raid frames provided by X-Perl. You can use only the raid and options portions of X-Perl alongside Perl Classic and have no conflicts. This should give you what you're looking for.
@srshyu: I'll look into making the text truncating not suck in a future version (this won't be in the next version though).
@Comrade Suhov: This is working as intended, what isn't working as intended (which is shown in your pic) is that the buffs aren't moving down to give plenty of room for the pet bar. I'll fix this in a future version (again, not the next version).
@Cheadstina: Please only post your question on 1 of my mod pages, not all of them in the future. Unfortunately, that's exactly how it should work. I may go back one day and add window position saving to the standard information saved with your character. Right now it just uses the layout-cache.txt file for saving frame positions. I wanted to add this in 3.x, but with that taking more and more time and me having less and less, it may just be easier to bring some of this over to 2.x.
@marlosonic: I'm not familiar with the install now feature on this site. I am familiar with the downloading of the zip file and extracting the contents into your addon folder though.
how the hell do i install it it just says when i try to install the one click install mod that it is not a valid website link then after that when i just try it without the thing is i dont know how to install it is that because it doesnt work on macs?

When I load a profile, the unit frames are not moved to the correct positions. They are not moved at all. The unit frames are only changed according to the settings(not positions).
When I "Load global settings" then the unit frames are moved to the correct position.
I don't know if it's supposed to work like this or not though :)

Since 2.3 (patch itself of add-on update) buffs on my party hidden under empy party pet bar. Also they now are less likely give you buff tooltip on mouse over them (got insane small area there buffs can show they tooltip).

There is one glitch in this wonderful ui that I can not play without. In any target frame (player target, party target etc) the max character name can be shown on zhTW version of WOW is 3. Can that be fixed? thank you.
Hi, I'm a switcher and rather happy with the clean look of Perl. Only thing I'm missing is raid frames. In the faq it says to look on curse, but I can't find something suitable there either. It seems the URLs at curse have changed. Can someone point me in the right direction, or tell me how you are dealing with raid frames? Any other addon that I should look into?
Thanks for the great work!

@mekagoten: The green dot looks like the one from the mod DOTTimer. I could be mistaken though. Although DOTTimer doesn't do tracking last I checked. Regardless, that isn't Perl Classic causing that. As far as getting rid of the blizzard buffs, I prefer Elk Buff Bars, which can be found at http://files.wowace.com
@tridus: I just tried the max health function call and I'm still only receiving 100 when selecting an NPC, so I think the listing in the patch notes is just a text option for the stock frames.

I'm getting this green dot in the middle of my screen and when i hover over it, i get a Mining icon to the far left of my screen... how can i remove this?
and further more, how can i remove blizzards Buff frames ?

@tridus: Hmm, not sure, I didn't see that change. I'll try it out and get back to you.
From the patch notes: "Health and mana values for your target can now be displayed numerically, as values or as percentages (was previously the case only for you/your party members)."
Will Perl Classic let us display enemy target health without having MobHealth installed?
@CaptCrunch
Yes, all tooltip functions now have to use 'self' rather than 'this' when accessing it, this is because of the new UpdateTooltip property of the tooltip parent which will call a function every .2 secs to update the tooltip, rather than you having to create an OnUpdate handler for every tooltip that exists.
I figured it out. There was a problem with CT_Mod_Core that was attempting to set the GameTooltip owner to nil. I didn't see it when I had only the Perl player frame up because you didn't add tooltip support for the player frame :-)
Anyway, if someone is using CTMod2's Core to place their tooltip, load up the CT_Core_Other.lua file and look for the function "reanchorTooltip". Insert the following line directly under the function definition (it should be the first line in the function):
if (not parent) then parent = UIParent end
That'll do ya. Glad this is working now. If I didn't like their action bars so much, I'd replace CTMod, but oh well...

@CaptCrunch: Not sure what to tell you. I haven't experienced any tooltip issues since 2.2 and I use a 3rd party tooltip mod as well. If there's an error it's throwing that may help to identify what is going on.
Another interesting note... I just disabled Perl (and all my other mods) and enabled the CTMod2 unit frames and the same thing happened: no tooltips. So Blizz must have changed the way tooltips worked with unit frames in the 2.2 patch. Might be something to look into.
I'll confirm what Suhov said. Tooltips are NOT working for any of the unit frames. I've disabled all addons except Perl and it still does not work. I've even only had just the player frame active and none of the other ones and still, no tooltip. There's definitely something wrong with tooltips.
Something tangentally related... could you possibly include a "test" or "template" mode in a future version that will just display all frames at the same time so they can be arranged properly? Whenever I disable/enable Perl or use it on a new toon, I can't arrange all the frames as I want them until, for instance, all party slots eventually have a pet or a target, etc. This would be useful even if the load settings function worked properly.
Speaking of which... I load globals and saved settings from old toons to new toons and it never actually restores the frames to the same locations, with the same settings, etc. And when I disable Perl, then re-enable, it seems to lose all the old saved settings. So is there a trick to getting this to work?
@BOORAD: That bloated crazy UI pack can be found here: http://www.aftermath-guild.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=2244
I have since made a new one that uses much fewer mods. As for your issue, it seems that whatever mod you have controlling your roll frames isn't working. That is not a Perl Classic issue. I suggest you look into using Bongos as it gives a movable roll frame.
@Comrade Suhov: Sounds like your tooltip mod needs updating or something since tooltips most certainly work in 2.2 with the latest version of Perl. Also please ensure that you have 2.09 of Perl Classic installed.
Since 2.2 patch then nusing this Unit Frames a small box with info about player name, guild etc. in lower right part of scrren just missing. It is not appera then I mouse over target, party, meself.
how come when im in a party it does not give me the option to NEED or GREED?? it always says i pass?
in those pictures what other mods are shown? as in the bars, chat window, etc
892 days ago
@Azza: While this would be a nice feature, it will not be making it into this mod, at least in this version. Maybe once I finish the rewrite I can work on this, but this is a very large and time consuming feature to do correctly.
Feature Request:
Would be cool to have a learnable filter list for debuffs to only show the ones you want. e.g. sunder, demo, tclap. I know the class buffs only option does this, but would also like to show faerie fire, and specific warlock curses on the mob too, plus that option also hides non-class buffs from players, so its not what I'm really looking for.
