Ever have a problem going through a merchant's or the auction house's list of recipes, schematics, or patterns, and trying to quickly figure out which ones you already know and which ones you don't?

Well, fret no more, cause RecipeKnown is here!

RecipeKnown will send out brilliant little Gnomes* with a magic crayonbox, and color all the recipes you already know! It'll even color recipes your alternate characters know!

* Note: These Gnomes are not intelligent. You must open your tradeskill windows at least once before they'll know what recipes to color!

To access the command-lines, simply type /recipeknown or /rk!

Todo:
- Make Compatible with Auctioneer Advanced Compact UI.
- Continue building GUI.
- Add Inventory/Bank support
- Add Mailbox support
- Add Trade Window support
- Add Loot support
- Color not-yet-learned recipes that you loot, if already have one sitting in your bank.
- Add Guild Member/Friend support! (Yes! Be able to see what your guild members or your friends need!)

Patch notes for RecipeKnown v0.114a
v0.114a
- Fixed a bug that would record linked tradeskills as your own.

v0.114
- 3.0.x support.
- Tooltips now lists who still need to learn recipes. (Doesn't work with all recipes yet.)
- Removed Warlock tome coloring, as it is no longer needed.
- Removed Auctioneer Classic Support, as it no longer works in 3.0.

v0.113b
- Auctioneer Classic will no longer show items during a scan.
- Fixed a bug where Auctioneer Classic users would get an error.

v0.113a
- Removed a debug message I forgot to remove.

v0.113
- 2.4.x support!
- Tooltips will now work with items in Guild Banks, trade windows, Mailbox, Auction House's Sell Window, and Merchant's buy-back window!
- Tooltips will now move to the left side of the recipe's tooltip if it doesn't have enough room on the right.
- Added (current Skill Level/Maximum) to the tooltip for each character.
- Fixed a bug that would cause an error detecting the database.
- Fixed a bug where items would be colored (and thus, shown) during an Auctioneer Advance Scan.

v0.112
- Heroic Keys will now be colored if you already have them. Note: Heroic keys MUST be in your keyring to register! (Why you would have them anywhere else is beyond me...)
- Merchant and Auction House windows will now automatically recolor themselves when you learn a recipe, or buy a Heroic key!
- A tooltip will now show up when you mouse over a recipe that you or one of your alts know. It will list all the characters that currently know this recipe.
- Fixed a bug where some class books wouldn't color if you knew a higher-ranked version.
- Added a lot of Level 60 class books to the list to be colored.

v0.111e
- Fixed a bug I created in the last patch for non-warlocks.

v0.111d
- Updated the TOC to patch 2.3.0. (Which I've been forgetting to do... ^_^')
- Fixed a bug that would occur if a warlock's pet's spell had no rank.

v0.111c
- Class books (books that teach you things like "Prayer of Fortitude", "Gift of the Wild 3", etc) will now color! Note: Not all books will color right now, as I need the itemids to make them visible to RecipeKnown. Download ItemID to get the IDs for missing books!
- Added many Jewelcrafting Figurine recipes to the english list to be translated. These should now color. If you find one that doesn't color, please tell me which recipe!
- Fixed a bug with foreign clients.

v0.111b
- Fixed a bug that causes an error when your mailbox is opened.

v0.111a
- Fixed a bug that confused the gnomes so they wouldn't know what to color.

v0.111
- Updated to patch 2.2.0!
- Added more German Recipe Translations. (Thanks Ayradyss!)
- Warlocks rejoice, as RecipeKnown now colors Grimoires! (German clients should work too!)
- Fixed an error that would occur while scanning the Auction House.

v0.110
- Updated WoW version numbers.
- Finally fixed the Book coloring code! All the level-up books now color correctly.
- Added an option to override other addons that may try to take over RecipeKnown's functionality.
- Added RecipeBook to the addons RecipeKnown can override.
Beta Available: v0.25 Beta 5d
Recent Changes:
v0.25 Beta 5d
-= Changes from 0.114a =-
- Rewrote the entire addon's code to make it more streamlined, and easier to adjust.
- Completely changed the Database. All previous data will be lost.
- Added a direct recipe/spell database. Things listed in this database will always color, no matter what language RecipeKnown is being used with.
- Added a triple-redundancy system for detecting known recipes on the current toon.
- Recipes that you can learn are now colored white, no matter how many toons you have that already know it.
- Unlearning a tradeskill will now remove it from the character's RecipeKnown Database.
- The Trading Window will now color recipes.
- The RecipeKnown Report Tooltip now works in all situations.
- The Tooltip will now be in color for faster recognition of who needs recipes!
- The Tooltip will now list the characters that can use the current recipe!
- RecipeKnown's Tooltip now work with your rogue's lockpicking and lockboxes!
- Added a database for items that should not be colored, or generate a tooltip. This is used for items that are listed as recipes, but are not recipes themselves, like the Bountiful Cookbook.

-= Beta 5d Changes & Notes=-
- Updated for Patch 3.3.5.
- RecipeKnown's Tooltip now work with your rogue's lockpicking and lockboxes!
- Added esES localization data. (Needs Testing)
- Fixed a mispelling bug in the Database Update function.
- Fixed a bug in the ItemID conversion function.

-= Beta 5c =-
- Fixed the update function so it won't constantly remove the old options values, causing the coloring bug in Beta 5b.

-= Beta 5b =-
- Fixed a coloring bug.
- Fixed a bug that wouldn't let the database record a character's colors.

-= Beta 5a =-
- Fixed a database bug that would occur if you didn't have an RK database already.
- Changed the Options Database's format to reflect changes from Beta 6.

-= Beta 5 Changes & Notes =-
--==Changes==--
- Updated ToC for Patch 3.3.
- Fixed all the Reporting problems with Beta 4.
- Made major changes to the database again. All previous data will be lost.
- The Inscription tradeskill and associated techniques will now properly work.
- Unlearning a tradeskill will now remove it from the character's RecipeKnown Database.
- Changed the meaning of the "Blue" color. Now indicates recipes your alts will eventually be able to learn.
- Changed the Detection method. This will help reduce low-frame rates.
- Added a lot of new recipes to the Database. Database still needs to be sorted!
- RK will now build an ItemId to Tradeskill ID database, based on your tradeskills, and their associated items. This will help speed up detection.
- Reworked detection and coloring to be more universal and easier to manage.
- Reworked how the tooltips operate to help reduce CPU usage.
- Fixed a bug that occured when updating your Tradeskills, and no headers are present.

--==Notes==--
- There is a small "lag spike" when viewing recipes for the first time each session. This is because RK is building a color info database, which allows one of the new functionalities to work. The lag is worse if you have lots of toons that know the recipe skill being viewed. (IE: Larger lag spike when looking at Cooking recipes) I'm looking for a way to reduce this lag even more, hopefully removing it.
- Merchants, Trading, and the Auction House are currently the only windows that color.
- There is now a "Yellow" color to indicate recipes that your other toons can learn.
- There is now a "Blue" color used for recipes that Alts will eventually be able to learn.
- There is now a "Gray" color that tells you that the specified recipe will never be known, or have to be learned, by any of your toons.
- Only Recipes and BC Keys color at the moment. Class skills/books are pending.
- English is fully supported.
- French & German functionality has been installed. Cosmetic translations (found in localization.en.lua) requested.
- Functionality & Cosmetic translations for other locales requested.

this beta now!
Current Known Bugs:
Incomplete: French and German translations for the new User Interface needed!
Missing: Recipes that have mis-matching names for both French and German localizations. (See localization files for how to help!)
Not all recipes list who still needs to learn them in the tooltips.

Sadly, there will be no further updates for the forseeable future. My game time has expired, and I didn't get any more for Christmas. So until I can get some money to spare (or a high enough donation via PayPal) development has been stalled.

Thank you all for the support you've shown me, and I'll be back when I can!

Doh, probably forgot to comment something out. Thanks for the notice!

I'm not sure where, but there's a bug making it hard to record tradeskills. I'm about to look into it now. Until then, I've had luck when opening a recipe vendor or AH window with recipes, then opening the tradeskill window. It may still not do anything, but a /reload will often make it work again.

Edit: Get Beta 3. It fixes the problem.
I installed beta 2, how exactly does this work cause i opened all tradeskill windows on all chars and as far as addon is concerned none of my chars know any recipes.

Status Update:
I've just finished my first pass at the second major version of RecipeKnown. It's a drastic and dramatic change in functionality, but it already works much smoother, and takes up far less CPU power per scan.

The new verison currently records the user's data, and will color Merchant windows with either the "known" or the "alt known" colors, meaning it will properly color if you or an alt has the recipe. It also uses a new detection method I devised, which is a mix of name-matching, and ItemID/TradeskillID matching. Recipes that are stubborn about being colored can (and will) be added to the new item list, which will force it to be recognize by the trade skill properly.

I still have to get the auction house functionality setup, as well as the tooltips, and many other things I want to add. But the others might be put off to the side so I can get a solid version up and running by the time Patch 3.3 comes out. We'll see how things go. Right now, I'm tempted to release this version as a beta, but I still want to do a lot more testing before I consider doing that.

is anyone going to update this?????
I've always had problems with books in RK... That's a major issue I'm working to fix in the new version.

BTW: RK still works just fine for ~95% of the game. If 0.114a breaks completely with 3.1, then I'll release a patch for it, but otherwise it is no longer supported. The new RK is a COMPLETE re-write. I'm not even copying the old code as a starting point! Sadly, I'm still not far enough to even release a beta of it. (Stupid real life...) More as I get it father along.

Some books are colored red for alts although the alt know those books:

First Aid; "Manual: xxx Bandages" all green, but "Expert First Aid - Under Wraps" and "Master First Aid - Doctor in the house" both red.

Mage; "Tome of xxx" all red although mage knows nearly all

Great add on! I'm only having two problems: after updating, I still see other tradeskills that are not mine...will try finding the .lua file in savedvariables.

Also, it is not coloring AH items anymore. This *could* be caused by the fact I'm using Auctioneer, but I know they were compatible with each other before 3.0 patch.
(Hmm, your new message dissappeared...) I'm not sure what to suggest. It works fine for me... Try deleting the recipeknown.lua in your savedvariables folder, then reopen all your tradeskill windows. This will force it to reload all your info & variables.
Have you opened your trade skill windows? That's the most common cause of this problem.

BTW: I am aware of the bug where opening someone's tradeskill link will record you as having those recipes... I'm working on resolving it!
I loaded it into my pc and it not coloring any of the recipes in the auction house. what could be causing the problem? :(

I'm finishing work on the BarMath 2.0.x series (bug fixes and such), so I'll be able to focus on working on the next version of RK soon!

how's that update comeing?
Announcement:
Work has begun on RecipeKnown 0.2! This version, rebuilt from the ground up, will address many of the issues, both technical and on the user-end, that have plagued RecipeKnown for a while now.

Built in, and for WotLK, it is not likely to be compatible with 2.x, and thus the 0.1x RK series will stand as it is now and will not be worked on further.

While work has begun on RK 0.2, serious work will not begin until BarMath 2.0 (and possibly 2.1) has been completed.

Major UI work is expected to be visited in this version, including a GUI color picker for the various colorings.

More information as the update progresses.

@KazragoreDDS: This only happens with Auctioneer Classic. Workaround: If you turn off the scanning checkmarks on the left-side list, then it works fine. I'll see about figuring out and fixing this for the next version. But just so you know, once I fix this, I'll be stopping support for Classic, as the Auctioneer people are going to stop production of Classic. You might want to update to Advanced. It kicks ass.

@woowoowoo: That's on my agenda for the next big release.
When I'm searching the AH for items, auctioneer always start scanning. Everytime. For example: I want searching for recipes, I choose recipes and the AH not listening the recipes but auctioneer starts scanning the AH...The new RecipeKnown v0.113b cause the problem. Downgrading Recipeknown to v0.112 fix the problem.
Would it be possible to add a tooltip to the side (like you currently do for already learnt patterns) but showing if you or any alts(on the same server) can learn it, instead of not showing anything unless you already know it.
@KazragoreDDS: I think I've fixed it, but I'm gonna download classic and test it before I release.

@Talix: Ah... Those two... When I get some time, I'll see about making those color red for non-priests and non-warlocks.

I really love this addon and use it all the time with my auctioneer character to know whether my high-level tailor/alchemist has all the recipes posted. However, I run into the problem that I cannot learn the two class-specific common tailoring recipes (forget the names right now, grr), so they will forever distract me as being colored as "Unknown, but learnable" since I am not a priest or warlock. Is there a way you could take those into account (including the one mage one I could learn) in your add-on, regarding what is learnable for who?

Thanks!

I'd love to, but I can't afford to play WoW. Been trying to get some work so I can...
Kjasi, can you update this mod for 2.4? Thnx.. :)
I've actually been noticing this behavor as well. However, on mine, the scan continues to work, I just get a flash of the items it's scanning.

I'm gonna look more into this and see what I can do to fix it. Thanks for narrowing it down to RK though! (I thought it was something on Auctioneer's end...)
Hello Kjasi. Ok sorry took so long to report this but holidys got in the way. I downloaded the latest version here (.112) and I am using the latest Auctioneer. Reason why I mentioned this is becasue since I installed .112 and try to do a Auctioneer scan the opening Auctioneer scan window very briefly shows up and then every page in the AH scans by without Auctioneer finishing. It took me a while to disable the mods and when I disable .112 the normal Auctioneer scan resumes. When I re-enable .112 the same odd behavior happens again.
Green recipes = you already know them. No need to buy them again. (Red means you can't learn them.) The lighter, yellower green means an alt already knows it. These colors are all configurable using the command-line.

As for seeing which char, I'm working on a tooltip that will list everything you need, and hopefully will be working with v0.112.

As for running the German client, there are some language problems with my german localization file, simply because it is not complete. (Things like the list of recipes to be translated, ect.) This could generate some of your errors, but probably not the switching green/teal thing. Do you have any other recipe-coloring addons installed? They could be conflicting...
It's not working very well to me...I'm using German client, and recipes that I have already learned are showing up green... That's supposed to mean that is learnable right? Also, when I scroll down the AH-window on the recipes tag, the colors are actually changing betweeen green and teal at the same recipes...

Btw I really miss to be able to see which character actually needs each recipe, because it's pretty annoying to really have no idea when you have 8 chars:p
966 days ago
Hmmmm... That's an idea!!
Hi there, you know one that thing that always bothers me that maybe you could add to this mod is if I already own a particular key at a vendor such as Heroic keys. Would be cool, if you could mark them too.

Just an idea... thanks.

I downloaded a list of Jewelcrafting recipes that have this issue, and I've added them in. It'll be fine in the next release, which I'm planning to do soon. Just got a few other things I want to fix/change before I make the next release.

Here's another one for you,Design: Truesilver Crab 225 skill vendor design sold by Helenia Olden in Dustwallow Marsh
1013 days ago
Hmm... It seems that the difference here is that the recipe says "Black Pearl Panther", but the tradeskill is listed as "Figurine - Black Pearl Panther"... There's quite a few recipes for JC like this.

I'll see what I can do.

Just to let you know that my 380 JC already knows Design:Black Pearl Panther and it still shows up as learnable tho already known. Its a vendor recipe too bought from Helena Olden, Dustwallow Marsh.

I know of Recipebook, and in fact, the author and I have talked about improvements to RecipeKnown. She's even helped out with some of the German recipe translations!
1024 days ago
Yeah, I've been finding bugs with it. (Such as not coloring the AH) However, (on mine) the merchant coloring still works, and I'm working on finding and fixing the problem with the AH. It probably has to do with the code I just added for Grimoires...
1027 days ago
There is recipebook which has a similiar functionality.

yup, same as Shinryu. I get nothing when I go to stores or AH and I have opened my lists first.
The older version worked with bugs and caused problems, but at least it worked.

Ever since I updated to the last version, nothing happens. Coloring is completely gone, even though I did open up all my tradeskill windows.

This mod sounds like a great idea but doesn't seem to work (for me).

I use Advanced Trade Skill Window, Auctioneer5, and Buadbag add-ons (and I do open my trade windows at least once as the Gnomes aren't intelligent but) the mod doesn't do what it is supposed to do... o.O

/rk override on
is supposed to override the other add-ons but in my case nothing happens...

Oh well, great idea for a mod though. :)
1029 days ago
Just updated to 0.111 installed it and nothing happens. No coloring or anything even when I set the various options under the /rk command. I disabled all my mods leaving RK enabled and nothing still happening.

Open the file "World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns\RecipeKnown\RecipeKnown.lua" with Notepad. At line 443 add three lines:

if (itemlink == nil) then
return;
end

The result will now be:

...
function RecipeKnown_GetItemID(itemlink)
if (itemlink == nil) then
return;
end
local Item_Name, Item_Link, _, _, _, _, _, _, _, _ = GetItemInfo(itemlink);
