ItemPriceTooltip is an addon that adds vendor sell values to tooltips for items. It uses the library ItemPrice-1.1 that knows the sell values for a large number of items in the game. Furthermore, ItemPriceTooltip can also record vendor sell values for items in your bag when you visit a vendor if an item with an unknown price is found.

Vendor sell values are mined from Blizzard's Armory and should therefor be fairly complete and accurate. All items that have been discovered at least once are listed on the Armory according to Blizzard. Thus, updates will mainly be required after a patch.

To bring up the configuration dialog, type either /itempricetooltip or /ipt in the chat.

Love this mod. Is this still being updated and/or worked on? Does this mod need to be updated, outside of the TOC file, or can one merely update the ItemPrice-1.1 library and that's it?

private servers may not be "illegal" but they do violate the TOS you agree to when you first start the game or first start a new patch.
Ehhh right... whatever. :) The main point relevant to this comment section is that I don't support private servers. :)
Here we go again.. "illegal (comparative more illegal, superlative most illegal) Positive illegal Comparative more illegal Superlative most illegal 1. (law) Contrary to or forbidden by law, especially criminal law. 2. Not permitted by rules Moving a pawn backward is an illegal move in chess. 3. 563 days ago
I believe 'unlawful' would have been a more appropriate term, in the situation.
fyi private servers are not "illegal" just sayin
634 days ago
@Gorramit: There must have been one or more errors before that. Otherwise, I don't see how that could happen. Also try disabling all other addons.

Seems to generate a bug in the new patch.

Yeah I just wanted to say this is a fantastic Addon...While being by far the smallest addon I have I can't do without it. I am not much of an money maker so I rely on the stuff I get from completing quests to fill my purse with money. In which case this mod helps me see the item most expensive to vendor them...Cause lets face it blizzard hasn't come up with items yet that I can actually use by the time I complete the quests. But thats another story lol. Anyway thx again
657 days ago
Aww, and not even an option to turn this off in the Blizzard panel. I hate this new feature.
@Spiderkeg: Yes, I think that's a Blizzard feature. It shows bid and buyout prices per unit. So it's not related to the vendor price at all. I don't think ItemPriceTooltip should touch these. :)
I really like this mod. However, I've recently noticed that the following are appearing on item in the Auction House. I disabled all my mods and this feature persists. I'm thinking this is a new feature introduced by Blizzard in a patch, yet I just now noticed this feature. I prefer your mod, and was wondering if there are any plans to disable the Blizzard feature? <Price per unit <Buyout price per unit

@LeBeaux: That's an illegal, private server. I can't help you with that.

thanks for the reply, and yeah might help just a bit to post it somewhere =)

@counters: Yes, the minimap-button is gone. The commands you can use to bring up the configuration dialog are /itempricetooltip or /ipt. Maybe I should write that somewhere. :P
680 days ago
hi BamED. I am a long time user of itempricetooltip and I have a recent problem with the latest WoW patch (3/25/08) I redownloaded the lastest version of itempricetooltip, and after I installed it and logged on, I couldn't find the minimap icon anywhere. I assume there is a /command to bring it back up but i have looked everywhere and couldn't find any help on this. Is there anything Im possibly doing wrong to not see the minimap icon anymore? The addon DOES work alright, its just that I cant customize it to look nice at all, and therefore its really not of all that much use to me. Thanks alot for your help and thanks even more for this great addon
682 days ago
Thanks, I hope it doesn't weigh too heavy on your mind. ;) Ah ok. Well, as long as it isn't slash command based, hehe. (not that this is an addon you're likely to change settings on very often, though)
The "old-school" Blizzard format is back as an options and you can also choose a text-only format. I did look at the new Interface Options by Blizzard. While the idea is good in general, the implementation is not - which is very typical for Blizzard. :( So I chose to use the Ace3 options instead. I think there is a way to have Ace3 options embedded into Blizzard's options. It's something I need to look at a bit more first though.
I liked how the Blizzard mode made it look exactly as if you were standing at a vendor. Of course I can understand the desire to simplify your addon, but I'm gonna miss this! ;( Btw, did you ever consider using the new addons tab in interface options? I must say that's a good call by Blizzard, gathering addon options there.
@Lombra: That is intended yes. I wanted to simplify the options overall and figured that since it can now display coins, there was no need for the "Blizzard" format. But I sense you aren't happy with that? :)
Hm, downloaded the new version, but can't see the option for Blizzard mode anywhere! Was that overlooked or an intended change?
As I live in Europe, there will not be updates from me until in a couple of days. I don't expect any problems though. Should there be any, you can give the beta-version a try as it has been designed and tested for 2.4. :)
Price updates for patch 2.3.3 will unfortunately have to wait a bit since my usual computer is sent in for repair *cry*. It may take a week or two. Though I hope it will be sooner. :) Edit: Don't have my computer back yet *sob*. But I got my scripts running on Linux so I could do an update. :)
@Gorramit: No, not really. The library does not know the names of the items - only the item-ids. It would substantially increase the size of the library if it were to store names too. There would also be localization issues with that. If you know the item-id, you can get the price. For example this command will print the price of "Amani Divining Staff": http://www.wowarmory.com/item-info.xml?i=33494 /print GetSellValue(33494) The price will be printed in amount of copper. It's not really a part of the addon as such. @Lombra: If there was a way to guarantee that vendor-scanned prices were accurate always, I'd definitely agree with you. But because there isn't, I will actually recommend disabling vendor-scanning. (I'd do that myself but I kinda have to turn it on so I can test it... lol.)
No worries =) Well, it is mainly (obviously) after patches that introduces new items, which for that matter isn't all too often, but it feels good to be able to store prices by yourself for those few days before a price update, that's all.
Is it possible to search the database like you can with Pricemaster? (To look up items you don't actually have)
@Lombra: Sorry for not getting back to you. I've been a bit away from this site lately. To answer your second question first. When the library is updated, scanned prices are only removed if they are the same as the library price - simply to save space. At the time I made that code, I was updating quite often since I was using wowhead as price source. I figured that scanned prices were likely to be more correct than library prices. I don't think that is the case anymore though, since I now use Blizzard's Armory. So that code ought to be changed, I guess. Tbh, I am still wondering if it is worth the effort scanning prices at all. It seems to me that it will never be perfect because the game does not always report the true, unmodified price while at a vendor. I think an accurate item database is much better overall. Can I ask how often prices are not found in the library? I'm not very actively playing with all the new stuff in the game. So I don't know for sure. But I did do a scan of the Armory lately and discovered no new prices. That's also why there have not been any updates lately. :) Btw, it is my plan to rewrite the addon using the Ace3 framework which is currently being developed. So I will probably not do any major changes right now. Though it does depend on when Ace3 will be ready for general use. I will continue to regularly check for new items at the Armory in any case.
May I suggest an option to store new prices only when there is not already a stored price (ie never update prices but only add new). And if you update your ItemPrice library (which includes a price you've stored yourself) later, the stored price will be removed. (maybe this is already the case?)

@partocula: Type the following in the chat box: /ipt standby Make sure it reports "ItemPriceTooltip: State is now set to [Active]".

Help please! I have donne a right-click with the mouse on the mod icon and it dissapear... Now I don't have the price of the items. How can I see the items price again?

@Osamar: Thank you. I've added the translations.

New strings for spanish localization: ["Ignore unknown items"] = "Ignorar objetos desconocidos", ["Don't show anything for items that are not known"] = "No mostrar nada para los objetos desconocidos", ["Ignore unsellable items"] = "Ignorar objetos invendibles", ["Don't show anything for items that cannot be sold to a vendor"] = "No mostrar nada para los objetos invendibles",
815 days ago
I just uploaded a new version which has quite a large number of item-price changes. Some 300 new items and 100 changed items.
Options to hide "No sell value" and "Unknown sell value" are now implemented. There are new items in the patch that the addon does not know about yet. I will do a scan of the armory in a few days, I think.
@Lombra: Thanks for the tip. I'm not sure if they will help though. What I really need is a 100% accurate formula for calculating the true price after it has been reduced due to repair cost (and other reductions such as "used charges"). So I think I will stick with the current behavior of simply not recording price of damaged items.
Perhaps you're aware of this but there's some new APIs for durability stuff that might come in handy for when to save item prices (in the rare cases it's needed) durability, maximum = GetInventoryItemDurability(slotid) durability, maximum = GetContainerItemDurability(bagid, slotid)
@robwood: AFAIK vendor buy price is always 4 x vendor sell price. So it seems a little superfluous showing that. This is the "base" buy price of course. It can be reduced with various faction discounts depending on the vendor. There is already a simple coin-display. Choose the "Blizzard" display style. I know it's not as nifty as ItemSync's coin-display but this is the only coin-display directly supported by Blizzard. ItemSync has implemented it's own coin-display. I recall the author spending quite some time getting this working right. So I'm not too keen on doing that. But I won't rule it out completely. ItemPriceTooltip and ItemSync don't do quite the same. ItemSync is a "LootLink"-addon that gathers item information while you play and saves this for future reference. ItemPriceTooltip is mainly a fixed database of vendor sell prices. It does record prices when you visit vendors if new or updated ones are found. But I have actually considered removing this feature completely as it will never be fully accurate and seems to cause more harm than good.
I am looking for an ItemSync replacement. Any chance of adding Vendor Buy prices (only for vendor sold items). and an option to display the Coin icons instead of the text?
@JimBim: I was so proud that I was able to add that info. And now you want it gone? :) But ok... will look at it soon.
Can you add an option to hide "No sell price"? That would be great :>
858 days ago
@whocare: Thanks a lot. I think there must be a %d missing in the following line: ["Prices in library: %d"] = "庫存價目", I don't feel comfortable just adding %d at the end since the text is gibberish to me. :)

@Lombra: There is no option. I hope the library is complete enough so that you don't get this very often. Is it new items in the latest patch that gives this? I'm going to scan prices soon from the Armory since there are probably some items that have been discovered recently. Edit: I did a quick scan and found a number of new items. Most seemed to be related to the Brewfest. Hopefully you will get rid of most of the "Unknown sell price" now. :)
Is there an option to set the colour for the "Unknown sell price" string that currently is red, and if not could you consider adding that? Thanks
862 days ago
Aha, too bad. ;( I guess I'll go with disabling price recording then. (didn't even think of that)
@Lombra: Yes, sadly I don't think there is any way to solve it. The game simply does not give enough information. The only way really would be to have a list of all items with charges. I'm not sure the increase in memory would justify doing that. The only work-around really is to disable vendor scanning completely. Hopefully the database is complete enough that you don't really need it.
Item with charges seems to be recorded with a reduced price when only one charge remains. I suppose it's got something to do with the tooltip not mentioning that there are any charges at all at that point. (ie, it doesn't say "1 charge") Any way around that?
@Osamar: Yes, the addon now uses ItemPrice-1.1. It is embedded with the addon just like the old library. But if you have chosen to dis-embed libraries, it is now ItemPrice-1.1 you need.
So now I can delete ItemPrice-1.0 from my addons directory?? Thanks.
Yeah, I soon realised that it was the case for the Blizzard item compare feature as well.
@Lombra: I have not had a chance to test yet myself. But I do know that Blizzard has made changes to the way tooltips are updated. I fear that it may be outside of addon control how fast it updates. But I will look closer at it.
I noticed today that when I hold down Alt to see the sell value it took some half second before it would appear. Same for disappearing.

how do u unzip folders
I don't think AH prices belong in this addon. The core of the addon really is the price data. Thus, a new set of data like AH prices really belongs in another addon. And there are already a few of those out there. I don't think I can do it much better. :)

Great mod, any chance of getting Auction House prices into it?

This is not a bug but a security measure for mods. We are looking at making thing less lengthy but keeping the security in tact.
Yea, I can see that. It must be a bug with the new site. The file I upload has the same name as it always had (ItemPriceTooltip.zip). For some reason the site renames it completely. I will see if I can find a place to report the bug.
The latest zip of 29/08 has strange filename -_- Now i must rename it to keep different from many mods archives.
