This addon adds information to the tooltip to remind you that you could buy an item from a vendor instead. Never get swindled again!
Currently supports Recipes, Vanity Pets, and Containers.
Frequently Asked Question:

In fact there is. (English localizations only please!) The file is saved in your Account/SavedVariables folder, under SwindlerPreventer.lua
Look for the line that begins with SP_NewItemInfo = {
Copy everything from that line to the end of the document and get that to me, and I can use that to update the data with. If you're lazy, you can e-mail me the entire file.
The in-game message is preferred, though. But if it's too much to remember, this method also works.
If you do submit this way, please make sure to delete your file before using a new version, so you're not submitting data that's already in the database. ^_^

Wow. I really have never noticed that before. I wonder how many people notice that? Honestly? It doesn't stick out until you're listing all of them from all the cities right in a row. Like if you're maintaining data for an addon like this. =P There may even be more store-named holiday goblins but these are the only ones that have been reported as selling recipes.
I'm also thinking about removing Container support. The vast majority of reported data is vendors, vendors, and yet more vendors, that sell the extremely common items of bags and quivers. In the next version, if I don't hear any requests otherwise, I'm going to change the extremely common items to say 'A lot of vendors, a lot of places' instead of filling your entire screen with vendor locations for that one item. The other option is to list only vendors in capital cities. What are your thoughts?

For instance, a Small Black Pouch will not list that it can be bought from a vendor, even though it's the exact same size as a Small Brown one. So just be wary, if you don't care about the color of your bag, and only the size, look for the 'brown' color for vendor information.
- Added 'detection' for Vanity Pets, Quivers/Ammo Pouches, and Containers for English localization. This data seems to be incomplete on websites such as WoWDigger, Thottbot, WoWHead, etc., so please report any data you find! You can report any information found at this website! Please include the entire in-game message.

I would agree that just in case someone can't find something for some reason, reporting at least one vendor would be better than just "a lot". If you could make it zone-context-sensitive like mluger suggested, that would be awesome! Great addon, thanks.

@Thor: In response to your question in the patch notes - Yes, I think that only including vendors from the capital cities would be better than including every vendor or just "all of vendors." I think that having just a few for such common items would help tremendously!

@kernighan - Why reinvent the wheel. There are several mods that add copy and paste to the chat frames. The one I personally use is Prat 3 (stupid name, great mod!) which can be found over at http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info10783-Prat3.0Pre-Release.html

You can't copy and paste directly out of tooltips (you can't link from them either) or chat (chat copy/pasting needs separate chat mod support). You'll have to add a separate frame and then have some way of porting the wanted data over to it.
Which is something some/many of us don't need with this mod. If considering it, make the feature LOD optional and/or modular so we don't have to have the frame loading if we don't want it.

As far as BoP items, it was a decision to include them or not. The decision I made was to include them. Sometimes, someone may link the item in chat and you'll be like "well where do I buy that from?" I, for one, still find this information useful. This is especially the case with recipes, even BoP ones. It is not a lot of hassle to actually include this information in the database. This is actually in line with the original Adspace, which did not distinguish between BoP recipes either.
I could try to have an option to not display the info on BoP items, though, if that is what you're requesting. But if it's not annoying to you, it's best just to let it stay. ^_^

I just noticed something very pointless. When hovering over my Dalaran "Rope Pet Leash", it says "Sold for 75s by Breanni, Dalaran". This is pointless because the item is "Binds when picked up". Maybe delete such items from the database and add a check to the "item finder" that says "ignore items that are BoP from vendor".
I can assure you, you will NEVER have the problem of getting swindled by someone trying to sell you a BoP item. ;-) It's impossible to sell BoP items to other players. Hence, it makes no sense to have that in "Swindler Preventer".

I have a serious concern about all these prices being reported. You know that reputation with a vendor lowers prices? If you are at exalted with a vendors faction, EVERYTHING that vendor sells will be 20% cheaper, so a 10 gold recipe will cost 8 gold at exalted. Therefore, these recipes may all have the wrong reported price if the addon doesn't remove faction discounts. Let's say you open a vendor you have exalted with, and you see:

So please look this over, it would be bad if we had a lot of prices listed with VARYING reputation discounts, like some recipes reported by people with exalted and others by people at friendly, etc.
All prices in the database should be reported at neutral price level.
Your best bet would be to go to thottbot/wowhead, looking at the item ID for each item in the database, and seeing the "sold by vendor X for X amount" and fixing the database, if my worries are correct.
Apart from this, great job maintaining and adding items to the database! Very good to see the database growing and the "found recipe" spam going away.
