LinkWrangler will allow you to open multiple item link windows from text links in the chat window. Ever been asked to compare items from the chat window for someone? Sitting there clicking back and forth between the two links, trying to remember the statistics of each? Ever want to look at multiple items as they blaze by you in the chat frame only to find out that the other links have long since disappeared by the time you are done with the first? This is the addon for you!

Features:
* Clicking on links in chat text will bring up multiple reference tooltips for side-by-side comparison or just for simultaneous browsing
* Tooltips have extra buttons providing features such as minimising the tooltip or relinking it to chat
* Key binds to close or minimize all windows
* Key bind to open a LinkWrangler window for the item you point the mouse at
* Refer to the included LinkWrangler.htm file for basic instructions

Compatibility:
* Many other AddOns have been written to use LinkWrangler windows
* Provides easy access for other AddOn authors to hook into the tooltips
* Can be reconfigured to avoid conflicts with other AddOns
* You can disable some features if you do not use them; for example the extra buttons can be disabled individually

Documentation (included in the download):
* LinkWrangler.htm : basic information
* SlashCommands.htm : full documentation of all the slash commmands, with examples
* Developer.htm : documentation of the LinkWrangler callback API, and all other exports, for AddOn authors

Patch notes for LinkWrangler
Version 1.82

Fix ChatFrameEditBox nil errors

There is a summary of these and earlier changes in file changelog.txt
Can cause problems with GM tickets: If you shift-click any player's name into the text box the the GM ticket, you will receive a Blocked Action error message when you try to send the ticket. As yet, I have not been able to work out a way round this - any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Release 1.81: Features fixes that were trialled in the 1.805 beta, plus some code cleanup.
I've uploaded a Beta version 1.805: Fixes a couple of rare bugs and tweaks a few things. I'll keep it beta for a week or so in case I've broken anything...

Thanks for update ^^

Release version 1.8

This time: TOC update for WoW 3.3, plus some extra API options and internal tweaks.

Release version 1.79

Mainly a TOC update for WoW 3.2
The one used in the screenshot is Altoholic. There are a couple of other item-tracking AddOns that support LinkWrangler too, such as WhoHas and (I think now) BankItems.

I love this add-on, but I can't get Uberinventory or TipCounter to give me an item count in open links (they aren't compatible with this addon). However, I see in the screenshots above that there is an item count. Which addon is this? I would love to know.
Thanks for the addon. :D

Release version 1.77

Also the 'Glyph Links' support from the last beta and other minor changes

Beta version 1.765

Adds support for Glyph links. Also some internal changes.

Release version 1.76
Effectively a TOC update of the beta

I've got a few improvements planned, but nothing that *needs* to be done after the patch, as it seems to be working OK - I'll probably do a new beta in a week or so.
still working in 3.1 for any one? i can only seem to open 2 like in the dafault Blizzard interface :(
547 days ago
Beta version 1.754 for testing.

Localization code has been revamped. Please report any errors you get, or any incorrect translations (in the few bits that have been translated).

Unfortunately LinkWrangler does not support the very latest version of Auctioneer.

I've created a patch AddOn that gets it working again - after a fashion

Release version 1.75

This is for WoW patch 3.0.2 (but should work with 2.4.x servers until they get updated - just enable "Use out of date AddOns" option)

Includes fixes and improvements for WoW3.0+

Also includes fixes for some rare problems with minimising tooltips

****

Please ensure you delete the old LinkWrangler folder before installing this new version.
Also please make sure that you extract the .zip file using folder names.
Some files have been moved to subfolders to make things look tidier :)

****

Known Problem: If you minimize an Achievement tooltip, you can't enlarge it again. This is due to a Blizzard bug - I'm waiting to see if Blizzard fixes it at their end before I do anything with LinkWrangler.

Next release for the upcoming WoW patch will be this weekend.

If you've been trying the 1.746beta version on PTR or WotLK Beta, and you come across any problems, please post here before Sunday! Ta :)

New beta version 1.746

I've got PTR access now, so...

Fix for error when closing tooltip on PTR!

Now supports achievement and talent links.

I haven't updated the TOC yet; this version should work on both Live and PTR servers.
New beta version 1.745

Fixes a bug where sometimes minimizing a tooltip caused the name to be replaced with the text 'Retrieving item information'

Changes the way item links are handled, due to a reported change in Wrath of the Lich King beta. I don't have a beta key to test it properly, so if someone does find any problems, please let me know!

New version 1.74 should fix the error reported by BWDemor (thanks for reporting :)

Was able to recreate the problem, then make it go away :)

Hopefully I haven't broken anything else though...

Tsoonami: There's a few things you can try:

When you click on a chat link, does the tooltip come up with all the LW buttons down the right hand side? (If you've disabled some of the buttons, try re-enabling at least the minimize button, as that should then appear on every LW tooltip.)

You could try resetting all saved settings: /lw status default

(Or you could try deleting LinkWrangler's SavedVariables file - ask if you need to know where to find this.)

If you've got an error trapping addon (such as Swatter or BugGrabber), see if LinkWrangler has been throwing any errors.

Let us know how you get on!

I am having trouble it seems that I can nolonger popup multiple link windows. I have checked the option for maxwindows and also have tried disabling several of my other chat window mods. Maybe there is another one conflicting but maybe someone has discovered a conflict already to save me to have to go through diabling my over 200 list of mods to figure out which ones.
Any help greatly apreciated as i love this mod! I have tried both the regular version and the beta with freash install where i deleted the linkwrangler addon directory.

Thanks Azaram. I know that the documentation is pretty much required for anyone wanting to reconfigure LinkWrangler, as the slash commands can be a little complicated. One day I'll finally get a GUI interface figured out (it's planned, but other thing keep cropping up)

***

linkwrangler.htm for basic instructions
slashcommands.htm for how the slash commands work
developer.htm for other AddOn authors to see how to hook into LinkWrangler

And if anything doesn't work exactly how it says in the documentation, it IS a bug, so please report it :)

<edit> of course, the bug may be in the documentation...
By the way, I love you for actually writing DOCUMENTATION for your mod... So many don't... (Auctioneer, I'm looking at you...)
The compare and dressup buttons weren't always displaying correctly. :-p I didn't notice any pattern to it, tho.
New beta version 1.713

Fixes a problem where the Compare and Dressup buttons do not always get displayed when viewing an item you haven't seen before.

It seems to be taking slightly longer for new items to get into the client's cache, and LinkWrangler can't get some information until it arrives. You may sometimes notice LinkWrangler windows flickering as they get new info and redraw themselves.

Also removes some debugging output to chat when you use the Grab function - accidentally left in 1.712, sorry :/
852 days ago
@lrdx: thanks for the report; I see what's caused it. Will get fixed version posted tomorrow, I hope!
Whenever I click an itemlink that has an already opened tooltip (to close it) I get an error message about LWCloseTooltipWindow beeing null in line 668 of LinkWangler.lua. LW version is 1.711beta.
Oops - forgot to include the new Quest links in the beta! Will be added for the next one.

@Azaram: could you describe how the old LW was acting flaky? If the beta is working better, I'd like to work out what I actually did to fix it... :)
/happy! LW was acting flaky after the patch and I was missing it...

New beta version 1.711

I've made quite a few internal changes, so I want to post this as a beta for a bit, to make sure I haven't broken anything that was working before.

Visible changes: TOC updated for 2.4, and can now handle those new Spell links
873 days ago
Working like a champ! I can't believe I had forgotten about this and been able to live w/o it.

Appreciate the time you put into this.
Thanks Shadowliche :)

And if anyone does run into any problems, please post here, and I'll do my best to fix 'em
876 days ago
Just wanted to say thanks for this. I used this long ago and had forgotten about it. I'll get it now and let you know if I run into any problems. Again, thanks for taking the time to work on this! :)

Version 1.71 is now available.

It's pretty much the last beta - just with some code cleaned up and debug functions turned off
930 days ago
Beta 1.705 is available. Fixed a couple of bugs. Seems fairly stable now.
Going to upload a new beta in a little while - please only download it if you are prepared to help test, it may not be as stable as the 1.7 release version...
@BWDemor: Yup, I remember I suggested some LinkWrangler compatability changes to Hojiman (the maintainer of the MTS fan update) - I can't remember what was wrong with the older version though. Pity it's not been updated in a while though as I quite like it :/

I'm back to working on that next update to Linkwrangler - sorry it's been so long folks

And Happy New Year :)
I love to have this mod working and can't live without it. However I ran into an issue with this and MasterTradeSkills 1.12.8. If I move to the Fan Edition of MasterTradeSkills 2.1.4 it solves my problems of it working. I still need to check on other mods, but on the surface it is working as it should.

Thanks and looking forward to an update or the new one.

@Seyss: Looked at ManyItemTooltips code - works much as expected. Supports up to 10 windows (better than MultiTips 5, but less than LinkWrangler's theoretical 100). I clocked it at under 5K, so nice if you're trying to save memory. It doesn't support any other tooltip addons, and it chokes on Auctioneer (but if you have Auctioneer installed, you're not worried about memory, eh?).

On another note, I haven't posted a TOC update yet as 1.7 seems to be working (at least, noone's reported any errors yet), and I'm in the middle of working on an update to do with uncached items (recipes & slotted items where the main item is cached but the sub-item isn't)
I use this mod to display more than 1 item tooltip:
http://wowui.incgamers.com/?p=mod&m=2112
It's old but it works.

RiZLA: Thanks for the feedback; gives me some things to think about.

Will look into Lootlink and WhoDrop - as they are still in development, the first step is to ask their authors if they would support LinkWrangler, then take it from there...

The author of HealPoints has stated that he will not support LinkWrangler, hence the creation of LinkWrangler Companion (excuse the link to another site please - I'll sort it out on this site as soon as they get PlugIns working properly here)

http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/8014/

I did mention in the old comments that RecipeBook does most of the stuff that Book of Crafts does, and may be worth considering as a replacement.

Also - I need to add a reference to SlashCommands.htm next time I update the Description above :)

1057 days ago
lol, I finally discovered SlashCommands.html, sorry :)

And the winner is!
/lw rightclick action=bypass

Yeah, Wowecon & BoC were probably the most valuable. I cant remember off-hand which mods, I'll get back to you on that.

Can say: "HealPoints", "LootLink" & "WhoDrop" for now.

but this bypass option solves all my problems, left click for lw, right click for normal, genius ;)

love what you're doing btw

New beta: 1.632
Working towards the next release

For some reason it's not showing as "recently updated" in the "beta" tab of the main page.
1060 days ago
Alt key bypass was: "/lw leftclick alt=bypass"

Another option was "/lw rightclick disable"

Could you remind me of the mods you have trouble with please? I remember Book of Crafts (which I tried to fix, but coudn't), and WoWEcon
1060 days ago
Comments are gone, boo! :(

anyway, I previously posted about the incompatibility with some other tool tip mods, and I was given a slash command to make alt key bypass LW.

Anyone remember what it was?

thanks.
